The Kinver Primary Federation has always had a strong board of governors who set strategic direction for the headteacher on how the two schools are run. But do you know what that influence is or how it affects your school and importantly, the pupils?

Here’s where we hope to explain it all.

The Role of Governors

The National Governors’ Association website states:

“School governors provide strategic leadership and accountability in schools. Governors appoint the head teacher and deputy headteacher. It is governors who hold the main responsibility for finance in schools, and it is governors who work with the headteacher to make the tough decisions about balancing resources.”

In the case of the Federation, our role is to ensure there is a clear strategy for the school by setting the aims and objectives and also setting targets for them, as well as giving support to the headteacher and staff.

We are involved in many aspects of the running of the school, from buildings and maintenance, setting standards and influencing calendars.

The governors have also have a very important role to play during Ofsted inspections. Our aim is to constantly improve standards, and so we take Ofsted very seriously, and consider it a very important part of our role.

Our governors are drawn from a wide cross section of the community, and for good reason. We need people with experience in many disciplines and who have a wide range of skills that can help the school prosper in an ever more challenging world.

How can governors help you?

If you have any concerns about anything to do with the school, you should first raise it with your child’s teacher. If you feel your query is not being dealt with appropriately, then discuss it with the head teacher. If at this point you feel your voice is not being heard, contact the governors using the form below.
